I dont know if this is just me or not, I would just like other peeps thoughts on the role of Captains in lotro.

I’ve been playing Lotro since day one and to being with I really pleased that I roled a capt. I liked the fact that it is a good all rounder, also as someone who isn’t able to send a lot of time playing, a few hours during the week, I found it quite good for solo’ing.

However as time as gone on, and with each book release, I have found that the need / role of a captain get a little less.

We can no longer class ourselves as a dps class as we now have the worst dps in the game, our healing abilities might be good to start off with and can help at low to mid lvl’s but at high lvls doesn’t really make that much of a difference.

There is no point trying to tank as our dps drops so low there is no point attacking and we cant attract agro.

I know people will say that we can perform some great buffs, and yes we can, but I didn’t role a captsto become just a buff  bots

Now with the book 14 coming along and two new classes, i’m starting to get the horrible feeling that things are going to get worst.

I’m not asking for the Devs to make us uber gods or anything, but just pay us a little attention.

I mean we captains for gods sakes, surely we must be able to deal out more damage then Lm and Minstrels !!!

I know peeps will say role another character but like I said before, my time is very limited and the thought of lvl up another character is not appealing in the slightest.

Like I said, maybe its just me. I would like to know your thoughts, and if it turns out it is just me then I will shut up and move on.

Just wondering if anyone managed to catch the new “Seven Swords” quest before it got pulled.

As part of the Angmar changes, the sword quests were changed from the old, fellowship-needed 7 swords to just killing 7 named (normal) angmarim scattered in a fairly small part of Angmar, followed by a small-fellowship instance to finish the quest chain off.

I didn’t bother doing it until after the patch, by which point the final quest had been pulled because it was bugged (small fellowship quest but you could only enter it solo).

However I was reading on the Turbine forums that one of the selectable rewards from the new version is a pocket item with +14 Might, +14 Vit, +14 Agi, +1%parry. Sounds decent, was wondering if anyone had seen the quest/completed the quest before it got switched off by the patch to confirm this?

Also in pocket items, the Aughaire Challenge quest series has one that’s worth considering for raiding: -1.5% melee vun, +13 vit, +might (only a little but there’s a clicky for +15might for 10mins every 30 as well), +79 morale. Since you don’t really need massive evades in PvE raids it might be worth having it for the extra vit/moral.

In the Lord of the rings online, decided that since some very kind people have developed time stamping and log parsing tools for the combat logs, I’d actually go through some of my weapons collection and see which really does “do the most damage”.

I was just collecting the data for personal interest but decided to post it up here anyway, might be of interest to some of you.

Tested on a ~30 minute circuit from Gath Forthnir to large hillman village and back killing mobs on the way of middle world in Lotro.

Mob levels 47-51, types are bat (swarm), spider (normal), human (normal, sig and elite), morroval (normal).

“5 second DPS” consists of stealth approach from behind with AIM+LIE (when available), then Surprise Strike, Counter-defense, Burglar’s Advantage. I *could* have used the full crit-chain as the basis for “Burst” DPS, but I found that normal mobs were usually dead by the time I’d done “Flashing Blades” with the mace/mace and mace/sword combo - that’s ~2.2K dmg in 10-12 seconds. So I decided to go by the first 5 seconds of the fight instead.

Reveal Weakness (non-traited) was used on all mobs, as was (non-traited) Counter-Defence.

Seperate logs were made for each weapon combination so I could run them straight through the lotrometer without further editing.

Reason I chose this area/route was the variety of mobs to test on. When I’ve finished my various weapon combos on this route I’ll be doing the same thing in other areas with different mob types (orcs/goblins/trolls/wargs/worms)

Twin Mirrored Ancient Maces:

- no power issues

- “5 second” dps of 250-340

- Avg dmg 118

- Avg DPS 75

- Subtle Stab: 216 max, 111 min, avg=143

- Flash. Blds: 373 max, 95 min, avg=170

- Burg Ad: 274 max, 134 min, avg=168

- DE-S: 213 max, 51min, avg=98

- Surp. Strike (stealth) 884 max 458 min[1] avg=754

Mirrored Ancient Mace MH, Rivendell Reputation Sword OH:

- no power issues

- “5 second DPS” of 250-300

- avg dmg 126

- avg dps 72

- subtle stab: 234 max, 113 min, avg=152

- Flash. Blds: 373 max, 126 min, avg=192

- Burg Ad: 274 max, 113 min, avg=176

- DE-S: 198 max, 64 min, avg=105

- Surp. Strike (stealth): 884 max 673 min avg=770

I am on my first charactor and on starting (in ignorance as to what the game was about) I chose to be a farmer ……. however I would like to change this to a more dynamic hobby

can I do this, if so who do I visit ?

It depends on how you want to play the game, I think.

If you have just one character, you can get through the levels more quickly and into the other areas like evendim, Rivendell & Angmar more quickly. The downside is that you only see one type of race and character.

If you play more than one, you get the chance to try out a different race or class. In the eralier levels, you get to see different areas, depending on which race you choose - ered Luin, the Shire, Breeland etc. The downside to that is that you don’t get through the levels so quickly.

Different people will tell you to do different things. I find it hard to stick with just one character, even though I think I should do, because I like the variety - But that’s just my preference

We all know that Lord of the rings online (lotro) is a great mmoprg game. But in this period of time there are lots of complaints in lots of lotro discussion forums.

The game updates several times after the Book 12. But we still can hear that too much fluff in the game.

Here is a complaint from one player:

“This post may upset a few people but I think the developers have got to try and keep the majority of its subscribers happy.

What is the point of all this PvP which is not true PvP in the sense of other MMO’s. I thought LOTRO was suppose to be PvE first and foremost.

All these dressing room and different attires I thought would be for RP’s in the main which are in the minority.

Having spent 4 months waiting for Book 12 to come out with great anticipation to find that a lot PvE which was fine has now been broke.

Did you spend 3 or the 4 months trying to satisfy the PvP’ers in the new Ettendeep because that is also very dissappointing.

No doub’t we are going to wait another 3 months so you can perfect Hobbies and Fishing in Book 13.

Lets get the raiding instances right The Rift, and Helegrod was fine until you decided to rearrange the pathing issues.

Come on turbine stop trying to fix what isn’t broke and sort all the bugs out then you can concentrate on all the Fluff.”
